I am still at 33,000 feet, only now about halfway between Dublin and London. The sun is rising and it's beautiful here above the clouds - the same clouds that will make sure it's cold and rainy in London. You are asleep as it is 1:56 am at home. We will be landing in about a half hour and my mission will be to determine where Stephen's flight arrives and intercept him. He left Guatemala City mid-day yesterday and connected in Miami. His flight is to arrive about an hour after mine and as your alarms are going off so you can be off to work, we will be in Trafalgar Square enjoying fish and chips with malt vinegar and ginger beer. Our flight to Johannesburg doesn't leave until 8:00 tonight.
More to come...
P.M.
London was stereotypically London - cold, windy and wet. But the clouds did clear a bit allowing for some great photos. We had our traditional lunch as planned with mashed peas then walked over to the Thames River, took pics of Big Ben, the House of Parliament, and then took the tour of Westminster Abbey. Although it is still an Anglican church in use with regular services, I find the number of remains housed there a bit creepy. It's much more like a public mausoleum.
We were struck by the amount of new construction taking place all over the city. There are cranes, scaffolding and new high rises every where. Seeing them interspersed among the classic old structures really changes the look of the place. Many of the very old buildings have also been enhanced with new facades and in some cases simply with a good power washing. The city looks great!
